Tchia rating12/3/2023 ![]() □ I can't wait to watch it all burn A slow burnĪreas with lots of enemies can get exceptionally tense if you're not prepared and can't find an explosive item. There are also sentinels that have remarkably good aim and range as well as piles of fabric that must be burned in order to prevent the Maano camp from reappearing after you take out its residents. □️Īdditionally, Tchia has combat! When you come across a Maano camp, you'll be tasked with possessing a fire-based or explosive object so that you can throw it at the enemy to take them out. Specifically, there are landmarks, fauna, and flora to collect as well as races, diving, and shooting challenges that reward you with trophies and stamina fruit to improve your strength plus totem shrines and rock-balancing which unlock new songs and pearls and braided trinkets that can be traded for cosmetic items phew! The map is full of points of interest that will happily sidetrack you from the main story. ![]() ![]() There's so much to do in Tchia that you can spend dozens of hours playing it even after finishing the main campaign. □ Nerds trying cool handshakes is always hilarious Never get bored It's a real joy to listen to, especially when you find yourself running through wilderness and taking in the beautiful sights. The soundtrack and sound effects feature artists from New Caledonia and incorporate instruments native to the area. However, the ukulele is also a powerful tool that gets more useful as you unlock new abilities such as playing the right notes to change the time of day or summon a totem that you can possess in order to shoot fire at enemies. For starters, Tchia is equipped with a ukulele that she strums during story scenes where you'll play a rhythm game and try to complete it 100%. □ Upbeat soundtrackĪnother theme throughout Tchia is music. I love when humour surprises me, especially in a video game with serious subject matter mixed in. Once, I found myself at the front desk of the offices of the evil Meavora and was told to complete a stack of forms and then find offerings only to see that as I left, the next person in-line happened to be number 1000 and they were rewarded free immediate access to Meavora as lucky number 1000. Said chicken will then continue to walk around and it even keeps popping up in future scenes complete with a simple bone where its head used to be. For example, when you befriend villager Louise, she will cut off a chicken's head because you said that you needed a dead chicken for a quest. Humour is sprinkled throughout Tchia, especially in unexpected places. □ I hope this rickety raft can keep up Humour in unlikely places When I realised that I could possess a bird to go long distances, it finally clicked why there weren't many fast-travel points and from then on, I constantly found myself looking for birds to possess so I could soar the skies while releasing the odd poop, of course. To get around, you can also possess any animal you see and even objects if you find that more suitable. Needless to say, traversing the islands is a joy even if the controls sometimes feel a little too floaty. With a makeshift raft complete with a sail and rudder, you'll be on your way to one memorable adventure as you run through grasslands, beaches, jungle, bamboo, and wetlands then dive into the water to find pearls and turtles before climbing up a tree trunk only to hop from tree to tree. In Tchia, you explore 2 main islands, a couple of smaller ones, and the waters between them. Overall, Tchia is a game with a lot of heart that also hits home with fun and varied gameplay. Witnessing Tchia meeting new characters, exploring life outside all on her own, and forming long-lasting friendships is just the icing on the cake. ![]() Its colourful game world, seemingly never-ending exploration, rewarding collectibles, and varied gameplay kept me hooked. Tchia is a coming-of-age story that sucked me in the more I played. The titular protagonist Tchia lives a cozy life on a small island with her Father and family friend when she finds herself leaving the comforts of home to free her dad from the clutches of an evil being called Meavora. │ Like you, Video Chums despises clickbait so you won't find any divisive content or articles that fuel the console wars here.
